Our next HF-AI-CRE Community of Practice (CoP) webinar will be held on 23 September. The topic is Usability of AI-Enabled Clinical Decision Support: Current Developments in the Field of Human Factors Engineering in Health Informatics.
As AI-enabled clinical decision support continues to evolve, do we need new methods and approaches to design and evaluate these technologies? This webinar will discuss new approaches to ensure AI-enabled tools are fit-for-purpose for healthcare environments.
The webinar will be delivered by 3 leading international researchers, who will share their expertise and perspectives on emerging developments in usability and UX evaluation methods. The audience will have the opportunity to hear about current research and practice, challenges, and hear practical insights on design an evaluation of AI-enabled tools.

Romaric Marcilly, PhD, HDR, is a researcher specializing in human factors applied to health informatics at the University of Lille (ULR 2694 METRICS research unit) and Lille University Hospital (CIC-IT 1403).
His research focuses primarily on human factors and usability in healthcare technologies, as well as organizational factors, patient safety, and methods for evaluating digital health systems. His work aims to design and evaluate healthcare technologies that are better adapted to the needs of patients and healthcare professionals, following a human-centered approach.
His research activities involve interdisciplinary collaborations in digital health and healthcare technology innovation, with a particular interest in artificial intelligence, vulnerable populations, and usability evaluation methods.

Dr. Linda W. Dusseljee-Peute is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Informatics at Amsterdam UMC, University of Amsterdam, and serves as Director of the eHealth Living & Learning Lab (ELLLA). ELLLA is a cross-disciplinary academic workspace that brings together students, researchers, and industry partners to collaboratively design and evaluate safe, usable, and inclusive digital health solutions. Her research focuses on socio-technical systems analysis, user-centered design, and the evaluation of digital health solutions in clinical and home care settings. With over 20 years of experience in educating Medical Informatics students, Dr. Dusseljee-Peute has developed, coordinated and taught a wide range of courses on topics such as Human Factors Engineering, inclusive User Experience Research, and digital care innovations, including telemedicine and patient self-management tools. She plays a central role in mentoring future professionals who will shape the future of healthcare technology. Together with two other health innovation labs she has given rise to the Amsterdam health & technology innovation district and the Amsterdam Learning Alliance. She contributes to the international field by Chairing the Human Factors Engineering in Health Informatics Working Group of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), where she leads international efforts to improve the integration of human-centered design in health IT development and implementation. Besides she acts as faculty coordinator together with dr. Thomas Engelsma for the International Partnership in Health Informatics Education (IPHIE), a global consortium of leading universities committed to advancing education in biomedical and health informatics. As Specialty Chief Editor of the Human Factors section of Frontiers in Digital Health, she supports international scholarship that enhances the safety, usability, and effectiveness of healthcare technologies. In addition to her academic work, Dr. Dusseljee-Peute advises the Dutch government through NICTIZ on the usability and Data Quality of health information systems in the context of the European Health Data Space. Through her academic leadership, research, and policy advising, Dr. Dusseljee-Peute continues to shape the field of medical informatics at the intersection of technology, design, work processes and human experience.

Thomas Engelsma is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Informatics at the eHealth Living & Learning Lab Amsterdam, Amsterdam UMC, location University of Amsterdam. His research focuses on the design, usability, and user experience of digital health technologies for underrepresented populations, with a particular emphasis on people living with dementia and their informal caregivers.
His work advances methods and frameworks for usability research to support the design and evaluation of effective, inclusive digital health interventions. He also contributes to research on inclusive healthcare preferences.
