On the 3rd of September 2026, Professor Melissa Baysari and Dr Bethany Van Dort contributed to a World Patient Safety Day event hosted by the Community and Primary Health Care Network (CPHCN) and SydSafe.

The event focused on this year's theme, Safe Care for Noncommunicable Diseases, highlighting the importance of delivering safe, person-centred care for people living with chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory disease. Professor Melissa Baysari delivered the keynote presentation, sharing insights from SydSafe's patient safety research and discussing the growing role of artificial intelligence in supporting safer, more person-centred healthcare. Dr Bethany Van Dort participated in an expert panel discussion chaired by Professor Brendan McCormack and featuring Melinda Cruz, Dr Darran Foo, Richard Taggart and Anna Thornton. The event brought together clinicians, researchers, health system leaders and consumer advocates for a thoughtful discussion on the future of patient safety, digital innovation and person-centred care.
